GeorgeCommunity News

The Denzell Downs Wind Farm in Cornwall is set to deliver over £100,000 this year for local projects, and we’re urging community groups to get started on their applications

The fund is split into three community pots, each with its own deadline and judging panel made up of local representatives.

Applications must be received by:

St Columb Major & St Wenn           Application deadline 17 May

St Eval, St Ervan, St Issey                  Application deadline 17 May

St Mawgan in Pydar and Colan    Application deadline 28 June

Previous Projects

To inspire new applications, we’ve revisited some of the fantastic projects supported by the fund last year such as the Columba Centre, who received over £12,000 to install roof mounted solar panels.

This busy charity was formed to keep the church buildings in use for the benefit of the whole community and hosts a wide range of visitors, from Mother and Baby groups to a Memory Café for older residents.  Bill Draper, Committee Member of the Columba Centre estimates the panels have reduced their electricity costs by around 30%.  “The panels have helped us with the overall cost of running the buildings and secured their future use for the town.”St Columb Major ACE Academy

The fund has also enabled the St Columb Major ACE Academy to resurface their playground.

Antus Phillips, the then Head Teacher at St Columb Major ACE Academy, said “Receiving the grant from the Denzell Downs
Wind Farm Community Fund has enabled us to give the playground a new lease of life.  It is used all year round for a variety of sports and activities and so the grant is much appreciated by all the children and staff at our school.”

We look forward to seeing more great projects being made possible through the Denzell Downs Wind Farm.
